About Christmas Eve
The evening before Christmas, for family gatherings, church services that run late into the night and the last of the gift wrapping. Many offices close early, and some years the president gives federal employees the day off.

How this count works, and questions
How this count works
Christmas Eve is December 24, the day before Christmas Day. This count ends at the start of Christmas Eve, not at the end of the evening.
Christmas Eve is not a recurring federal holiday. A special closure or an employer’s day off can follow a different schedule.

Questions about this countdown
Does the count include today?
No. The count leaves out today and includes Christmas Eve itself. The day before, it shows 1 day. On Christmas Eve, it shows 0 days.
Which time zone does the count use?
Your device's time zone, named on the Today line at the top of the page. Choose another time zone in the form to count to midnight there instead.
Why might another countdown show a different number?
Some countdowns also count today, or count full 24-hour periods. This page counts calendar dates. The clock under the answer shows the exact time left until midnight at the start of Christmas Eve.
Is Christmas Eve a public holiday in the US?
No. Christmas Eve is an observance. It is not one of the legal public holidays listed in federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103), so it is not a federal day off. States, schools and employers set their own schedules.
