How this count works
These are the astronomical seasons of the Northern Hemisphere. Spring and fall begin at the equinoxes; summer and winter begin at the solstices. The same instant can fall on different local dates.
Times are published to the minute. Meteorological seasons start on March 1 (spring), June 1 (summer), September 1 (fall) and December 1 (winter). In the Southern Hemisphere the season names are reversed; choose it in the form.

Questions about this countdown
Why can the date differ between time zones?
An equinox or solstice happens at one instant for the whole world. Depending on your time zone, that instant can fall on a different calendar date.
Astronomical or meteorological seasons?
Both are offered. Astronomical seasons start at an equinox or solstice, the dates most US calendars print. Meteorological seasons use whole months, the way weather services count them: spring is March, April and May in the Northern Hemisphere and September, October and November in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia and New Zealand count spring from September 1, so a southern visitor sees that first; change it in the form.
Why is spring in September in Australia?
The seasons are reversed south of the equator. The September equinox starts spring there and fall in the north; the December solstice starts summer there and winter in the north. The page follows the hemisphere of your time zone, and you can switch it.
Does the count include today?
No. The day count leaves out today and includes the date the season starts in your time zone.
